2011 Annual Fundraising Dinner & Auction
A Joy that is shared is a Joy made double! And this was certainly the case at World Joy’s Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction event held on the evening of September 27th.
Supporters from Salt Lake and Davis Counties, and from as far away as St. George, arrived at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building to enjoy the evening’s activities, hosted by local personality and KSL meteorologist, Kevin Eubank.
Guests were kept busy bidding on the nearly 100 items made available through the generous donations of local businesses during the silent auction and then eventually settled in to dine on a beautiful buffet of Prime Rib, Chicken Oscar, Roast Pork Loin, fine breads and cheeses, and a decadent array of desserts.
The program included an inspiring African drum performance by local 4th graders from Heritage Elementary in West Kaysville, followed by a compelling video presentation of World Joy’s accomplishments and future project needs. The pinnacle of the evening came during the raffle of a beautiful hand-made African quilt. Kami Nielsen, Event Chair, told of the purchase of the native fabric from a local vendor in the Abomosu marketplace and the particular care, love, and extensive sacrifice of Kathy Torman, the quilt’s creator. Emotions crested and tears flowed as the quilt’s price rose higher and higher.
And, to our 2012 Project Champions—we honor you, welcome you, and look forward to your contribution.
