2013 Dinner & Auction
In celebration of an historic year in 2012, we called our supporters together to acknowledge the many generous hearts that made it all possible!
It was an enchanting evening in the Capital Ballroom at the Marriott at City Center on Saturday, March 23rd. The full-to-capacity crowd was welcomed and entertained by local television personality and KSL meterologist, Kevin Eubank, throughout the evening's presentation.
World Joy was honored to welcome many special guests including:
Each table was beautifully appointed with a wood-carved Gye Nyame symbol--the theme for the evening, highlighted by soft flickering tea lights.
At each place-setting, guests were greeted with a hand-made salted caramel courtesy of Lahna's Chocolates and a copy of Observer, a Viridian publication that reported on their 5 projects within World Joy's villages in 2012.
Guests enthusiastically perused the Silent Auction tables containing nearly $30,000 dollars in donated goods and services. (For an entire list of donors please see the "About Us" tab.)
The buffet fare was overflowing and delicious thanks to the oversight of Event Manager, Tim Cox, and so many other brilliant Marriott staffers.
The night included a dance and drum presentation by Deja Mitchell and friends (Tribal Love Dancer) and audio/visual presentations by Alex Boye, Viridian, Miche and World Joy, followed by guest-speaker, Cami Boehme, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Brand Strategy at Viridian.
Cami captured the audience by urging all to "be a good example" and to be generous stewards of the world by "giving back" in a socially responsible way--whether corporation or individual.
As the overseer of the Viridian brand Power with Purpose, her work is award-winning: the most notable is that her 7 Continents in 7 Years video campaign has been nominated for this year’s PR News Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award.
The humorous repartee' between Kevin Eubank and Ziggy only intensified as Live Auction items were introduced in succession. Kevin offered up Ziggy's services from travel companion to chauffeur--whatever if took to drive the bidding higher and higher. It was all part of the fun that ensued, capping off a delightful evening.
We humbly thank the members of our planning committee, our Jr. Board, our donors, our volunteers, and our guests for their fine support.
