World Joy Expeditions

Join Our World Joy Expeditions to Ghana
October 4-13, 2018

World Joy receives numerous requests regarding volunteers who would like to go to Ghana to help our villagers. Unlike many non governmental organizations, World Joy requires the villagers to contribute to the construction of their schools, water wells, and health clinics, from digging the footings, making the blocks, and providing the lumber and sand. Since the villagers take an active part in building schools (and health clinics), they feel ownership and take subsequent pride in caring for them. They have a sense of achievement and are more likely to view education (and good health) as important and see to it that their children attend regularly.

The greatest need for World Joy is to help procure funds for the construction of schools, health clinics, wells, and training programs. Each expedition member is asked to raise funds which will go towards a program or project of World Joy's choice. Each participant will be required to pay their own expenses to Ghana. World Joy will arrange all ground transportation, lodging, service activities, food, and site-seeing.

A typical expedition lasts from 7-10 days and the majority of the trip is spent at our central hub, the tiny remote village of Abomosu, located 90 miles north west of the capital city of Accra. World Joy has leased a lovely Guest House (by Ghanaian standards) equipped with running water, electricity, and indoor bathrooms, where the participants will stay.

Expedition members will be involved with teaching training activities at our newly formed Learning Centeres, from English literacy classes, computer training, and activities and games. Most expeditions will have the opportunity of experiencing a native dedication ceremony for the program/project funded. The culmination of the trip is spent at the beautiful Coconut Grove Resort in Elmina at the coast. Expeditions members will have the opportunity to tour the famous Elmina Slave Castle and witness the flora and fauna on a canopy walk high above the jungle floor.
